Come and join us in our poetry place,
Play with words, rhyme and sound
To write the longest poem, there is no race
But we have fun, in a supportive space,
Where poetry friendships abound.
This is a monthly online poetry group, which I set up for anyone who wants to write poetry and have fun with words, and meet up regularly.
I want poetry to be accessible to everyone and not be something that is thought of as a ‘high-brow’, inaccessible, almost foreign idea, which is how many people see this literary art.
Poetry can be great fun. It is about expressing yourself through words. Playing with words, exploring their sounds, meanings, and how they work together.
The group is small and we would happily welcome more members.
The group range from people who regularly write poetry, but haven’t yet published, to other’s who write occasionally, but enjoy hearing poetry read and learning about new poetry forms.
Each month I set four prompts for people to write about. They don’t have to stick to just those prompts, but it is fascinating to see how people in the group view the same idea in totally different ways, producing a great variety of poetry.
Everyone sends their poems into me for feedback, and then during the meeting I read the poems to everyone.
We share poems by our favourite poets, which often means, introducing people to poets they have never heard of.
In the near future, we hope to publish an anthology of the poems that have been written during the year.
To this end, each group member pays £10 per month, which is being saved, by me, to pay for the cost of publishing the anthology professionally.
We meet on the last Saturday of each month from 2- 3pm.
If you would like to know more about the group, or possibly come and join us one month to see what it is all about, please contact me.

“One Year of Poetry 2021”
One Year of Poetry 2020-2021 is the first anthology of poetry by members of Lis’ Poetry Place, an online group of meet monthly. They write poems on a range of subjects, with each member having developed their own style.
The poems range from emotional and fun to profound and weird; with something for everyone.

“A Year of Poetry 2 – 2022 – 2023″
A collection of poems from the members of Lis’ Poetry Place, an online group of poets who have met during the last two years. Some members have come and gone, but these are the core members for this year.
Led by Lis McDermott, we meet monthly to share the poems written during the month by group members; share poems by other poets, introducing the group to poets perhaps previously unheard, and we explore different poetry forms. For those who enjoyed our first poetry book we sincerely hope you get the same pleasure from this second one.
